
Labuan island is the most convenient location from where to discover Brunei. Ferries run regular trips between both coasts within the time frame of approximately an hour, the last ferry service being 4.30 pm daily via the Seri Anna boat. There are no boats after this time. Ferries arrive at Serasa ferry terminal, close to the port of Muara. From there, it takes just twenty minutes to reach the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. This city is famous for golden domes that crown mosques and the Sultan's palace. Relatively condensed, sightseeing is accessible by foot.

Not to be missed is the Royal Regalaia that exhibits all gifts offered to the Sultan of Brunei - Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. There is a very impressive collection, made more interesting with a fine showcase of the Sultan's wedding ceremonial clothing, all of which will help you understand why the Sultan is deemed as one of the wealthiest men in the world. Another informative museum is the Brunei National Museum with a comprehensive exhibit of antique Islamic artefacts.
You can then discover Kampung Ayer by boat, a floating village with mosques, schools and shops.
The jungles of Brunei are known to have one of the best preserved eco-systems. Temburong National Park is, in fact, the last piece of untouched rainforest in Borneo with a unique biodiversity and fauna on 50,000 hectares of land. Tasek Merimbung Heritage Park is a black water lake listed on the ASEAN heritage. For families, Jerudong Park Playground is still the largest leisure park with carousels in Southeast Asia.Golf lovers will enjoy a visit to the luxurious Empire Hotel, not far from Jerudong Park. The deluxe hotel is rated six-stars, an appointment clearly reflected in its opulent decoration. The Empire Golf Course is Brunei's finest and was designed and built by golf champion Jack Nicklaus. It was intended for night golf with all 18-holes floodlit, boasting a magnificent view of the South China Sea.
Though you may not be spoilt for choice when shopping here, nevertheless, there is variety in Gadong district where numerous supermarkets and shops cater to travellers. Fried butter prawns, Filipino specialties - all of these can be savoured at the food court at Centrepoint Shopping Complex, a "must" for food lovers!
